Childrens Bedding Design Tips

There's a simple strategy for creating a room that will grow with your son or daughter. First, invest in a good quality foundation. That includes well-made beds and dressers that will last, and carpet in a color and quality that can be included in a changing color scheme.

Second, reflect the child's age and personality in things that are easy -- and inexpensive -- to change. A toddler-sized armoire will quickly be outgrown, but you can use a full-size armoire, changing its paint and knobs as your babe's interest moves from baby blue to trucks to guitars. Similarly, a patterned carpet of ribbons and bows is costly and may not suit the taste of your teeny-bopper daughter, but a rug, bedcover, or draperies in such a pattern is a cinch to swap out for something more hip.

In a preteen boy's room , a full-size bed can replace a toddler bed as the room's focal point. Other changes are subtler. On a dresser, kiddy drawer knobs were swapped for classy black ones or pewter. A nursery lamp can be repainted and outfitted with a new shade. Rustic-looking accessories, corkboards, and framed posters can replace childish wall hangings.

Our list of items that you can change as your child grows...

Wall accessories
Window treatments
Window hardware: rods, finials, and tiebacks
Area rugs
Bedding linens and coverlets (stay clear of "character bedding", your child will change their interests so often)
Storage bins and baskets
Furniture color
Floor pillows

DESIGN TIPS:
1.) Your child's room is an extension of their personality Allow your child to make some decisions pertaining to their room decor. Just try to find some commonality such as colors, overall furniture arrangement and basic theme. You don't have to purchase "character bedding", but let your child accessorize with character throw pillows or rock group posters. Your childrens bedding can be the focal point of the bedroom, so try to agree on a bed set that you both can enjoy looking at!

2.) Your baby nursery is a special, meaningful place and you should have fun decorating it. Baby nurseries are one of my favorite places. There is a warm and loving energy in a baby's bedroom. Decorate it with tender care and take your time. Keep in mind that the crib and it's bedding will be used many times a day for 2-3 years. Choose a bedding design that you love, and fabrics that your baby can snuggle into. Baby bedding is available in all sorts of designs from gingham baby bedding to sports crib bedding, just let your heart be your guide.

3.) Choosing a decorating theme is a great way to begin decorating a room for a child. If you're like most parents, you've probably spent lots of time thinking about decorating your new child's room even before he joined your family. While bunnies are cute and teddy bears are darling, you might want something different for the Boy's Bedroom or playroom. There are lots of great themes for boys' rooms. A special theme will provide both the focus and the inspiration for a special one-of-a-kind room and can be adapted as your child grows.

A Bug's Life theme from bees and ants to frogs and reptiles, creatures of nature often capture a child's attention. For a Safari look, find wonderful, colorful animal wallpaper borders and fabrics at any wallpaper store. Paint the walls blue, tan, ivory, or any of the colors in your wallpaper border. Make pillows and valances from coordinating leopard-print fabrics, and find some stuffed lions and tigers for the corner. Mount a butterfly net, binoculars, or straw hat on the walls. Use colorful matboard and frame some of your child's artwork to display. Maybe he'll draw some lions!

Rustic Cabin theme is a good choice because most every child loves spending time at camp or in the mountains. Think of hiking, boating, fishing, or just enjoying the outdoors. Birdhouses, bears, moose, and fish might show up in wallpaper borders, in fabrics, bedding, and accessories. Look at our Adirondack bedding for inspiration. For a rustic room you might also choose comfy plaid patterns, flannel fabrics, and log or pine beds. Accessories might use forest themes of animals, mountain scenes, or natural materials such as pine cones, leaves, and sticks. Take another cue from camp and use a sturdy trunk to store toys. With a room this nice, who needs a vacation?

4.) Color Schemes for the Nursery. Young children love bright primary colors but large areas can be overwhelming. Decorating the baby room with a subtle, calm color scheme is usually a better choice. Introducing warm colors - rose, peach or primrose - into your baby room decorating ideas will help create a feeling of coziness. While a feeling of spaciousness can be created by decorating the baby room with the cool colors - aqua, mint or sky blue. But it is probably best to keep ideas based on this color range for a room with a warm, sunny aspect. Touches of bright primary colors bring extra interest and visual stimulation. Introducing just small amounts withbaby nursery pictures, nursery bedding sets, toys and accessories can transform a room. These are the finishing touches that can bring nursery décor alive!

5.)Color is one of the most powerful design elements available. It can create and enhance mood, light and tone quickly and dramatically, no matter what age group you're working with. Try paint, paper or even carpeting--in some of your little girl's favorite colors--and build a fun space you can both live with.
Look for Personality~ Your daughter already has a personality of her own. Find out what she really likes and build a space based around them--from color to texture and furniture to photographs. You can make a room that not only reflects who she is but who she wants to be. And you want her to feel safe and comfortable in the environment or she won't spend much time in there.
Aim to Inspire~ Childhood is a very creative time. With a little thought and planning, you can build a space that not only offers a good combination for sleep, study and entertainment but also inspires her dreams and encourages her talents. Remember, the more she contributes to the room, the more connected to the room she'll feel.

6.) Tips for creating a beautiful garden theme bedroom. For example if you chose garden bedding or floral bedding, you can start by painting the walls and the ceiling blue for the sky. Next you could paint on or apply a wallpaper fence. Place flowers over the fence to create a garden feel in the room. Many of our customers have found old pieces of picket fence and used them along some of the walls in the nursery or bedroom. We like the look of silver watering cans and even straw sunhats as decor. Add some wicker furniture and you are on your way to a beautiful garden theme nursery or girl's bedroom. Try with our Suzie's Garden girls bedding or the Happy Flowers bedding for girls. For the nursery, try this garden theme with the Flower Garden baby girl bedding or any of our floral bedding.

7.) How to start your ocean theme bedroom. Begin by coordinating your child's fish bedding with the paint colors you choose for the walls and creatures. Try our Zippy Fish bedding for kids. Matching paint colors with the comforter and decor adds fantastic depth. Once you've chosen your colors, begin painting. Remember to use many colors, adding glitter paint wherever you feel accents should be. Maybe the tips of the waves shine from the sun. Maybe the snails antenna are sparkly. Maybe seaweed glows in the dark. Maybe the tiny fish are electric blue and the medium sized fish are neon orange and yellow striped. And what about the sunken treasure chest? The jewels? Let your imagination fly. For a more whimsical look, add faces to your creatures, or make the ocean theme room come to life with a family of Mermaids. Have fun!

8.) Going from crib to "The Big Bed". The basic items in most nurseries are the crib, changing table, rocker, toy shelves and dresser. Most baby furniture is durable and can withstand the toddler years. Therefore, you might be able to keep most of it and simply replace the crib with a bed. If you need to buy new furniture, make sure it is durable, functional and adaptable enough to grow with your child. Most children two to two and a half years old or 3 1/2' tall or taller are ready for a big bed, but there's no need to rush the process. Making the transition from crib to bed needs to be at your child's pace. When you are ready to purchase the bedding for the new bed, have your child involved in the process but set limits!

9.) Adding a realistic touch to that jungle theme room. Find a thick rope, 5' to 6' in length. Using a hot glue gun, glue silk leaves to the rope to look like a vine. Hang the rope in one corner of the room from two hooks secured in the ceiling, spaced about 3’ apart and hanging down approximately 2’ from the ceiling. Attach each end of the rope to a hook. Find a stuffed monkey and secure the animal to the rope using clear fishing line. Make sure to keep the rope and monkey away from cribs or beds and out of reach of your child. Try our Animal Kingdom bedding for a realistic look!

10.) Baby crib bedding and linens should be made from a high quality cloth, as a baby’s skin can be very sensitive. Rough materials can cause skin irritations and an unhappy baby. The detergent you use to wash them in should be selected with care for the same reason. Baby crib bedding and baby linens are an important consideration. To start with you will need three or four bottom fitted crib sheets to cover the babies mattress. Some mothers will put an extra padding under the sheet to keep it more comfortable on the plastic mattress surface. If you buy a set of baby crib bedding and linens you will usually get a top sheet. You will get a small quilt to keep the baby warm and not over crowd it in the crib. SweetPeachesBedding.com believes that crib linens are the most important part of your new baby's nursery.

11.) Your child is born with a wonderful imagination, find a sheet set or bed in a bag that stimulates that wonderful imagination. With all the wonderful kids comforters on the market today you will find it hard to choose only one that your child will love to snuggle under. There are space themes, dolls, cowboy themes, dinosaurs, animals and wild colors. There is something that your child would just love to have. Remember, the average child spends 12 - 18 hours a day in their bedroom. Why not make it special? Bedding for kids has come a long way in the past 20 years. Bedding for boys offers more of a variety of themes and bedding for girls has become almost adult like in the fabric and details. Put yourself in your child's shoes...would you want to sleep on scratchy sheets or be surrounded by a design or color you disliked?

12.) Baby, toddler, children and teen bedding changes in print design as a child grows. When a child is born his environment may be decorated in nursery rhyme themes and baby bedding is most often in pastel colors. As he ages and becomes more aware the colors and print patterns change in the kid's bedding he likes most. Colors become bolder and the prints may be favorite toys, the alphabet or other interesting patterns. Children are known to enjoy bright colors and interesting patterns. These are made available to children of all ages by careful design and market research.

13.) Adding our own personal touches to our home make us more comfortable and helps us to relax. Decorative pillows add a softening effect to a room as well as adding a splash of color. Many decorators use fun, throw pillows in bright colors and unique shapes. They may select all other furnishings in the same color and then add excitement to the room with these bits of color. It can add a very dramatic look to a room and the color of the pillows can be changed to alter the mood. Or they can be changed to suit the season or holiday spirit.
