The Promise of a Good Deal I love a great deal don’t you? But there are some disturbing trends in discount crib bedding so - buyer beware. Our industry product investigator questioned a leading crib bedding manufacturer about the reasons why some crib bedding e-tailors sell crib bedding for a fraction of the cost of other stores. It is simple - Many crib bedding shops are selling crib bedding that was rejected by the manufacturer and marked as a second. However the crib bedding sellers have no intentions of ever telling you that your new crib bedding is a second. When our industry specialists called to question top e-tailers about their product they continued to insist that the product in question was first line quality even when presented with documentation from the manufacturer that suggested otherwise.

So what if your new crib bedding is a second if it looks okay and if you get a good deal - why should you care? The answer is safety. “Seconds” crib bedding such as the bumper pad may not secure effectively to the crib rails and become wrapped around you baby causing death or injury. Fitted sheets may pose the same problem if stitches securing the elastic to the sheet are dropped and the crib bedding sheet becomes separated from the elastic securing it to the crib. Crib bedding quilts and blankets may have only small imperfections that can cause big problems. Appliqués sewn to crib bedding may come loose and cause a choking hazard. Bedding manufactures decide whether crib bedding should be a second or a first for very good reasons that look out for your child’s safety. Make sure your crib bedding seller is also looking out your baby and not their bottom line. Read more about choosing a crib bedding theme

Crib bedding and thread count: When you choose crib bedding based on thread count you may not being doing yourself a favor. Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical threads in one square inch of fabric of your crib bedding. Many people will tell you the higher the thread count on your crib bedding the softer it is and longer lasting. Not always true. Thread count in crib bedding can range from 120 to 340. If thread count is important to you please make sure not to fall for this trick. Crib bedding manufactures are using double and triple ply threads and then double or triple the thread count. The result can be crib bedding that washes poorly and does not provide any more softness then their 150 thread count cousins. If you are considering silk, linen, flannel, or jersey crib bedding then low thread counts actually make these sheets nicer. Higher thread counts make the crib bedding stiff or rough.
